Excellent fried burgers! I had the green chili topping with cheese and my husband had a plain cheeseburger. You order at the counter, are given a number, and wait for your food. Our wait was about ten min. They were delivered with potato chips. The choc malt was good too and had a dark chocolate flavor that I enjoyed. This is a small old building in need of an update and good cleaning, so that took my rating down. The locals were coming and going so it is evidently popular - just off the interstate about a mile. Recommended!

This family owned burger joint / mini diner is an east mountains icon. The burgers that come off the well seasoned flat top are absolutely perfect (the green chile cheeseburger is one of the best in the state). The malts/shakes are hand mixed with real ice cream and the chile (red and green) is on par with the best in New Mexico.

It really looks like nothing from the outside, and you pass by a bunch of these kinds of places as you motor around between Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos. But this one's definitely worth stopping at for a really good green-chili cheeseburger. Not the one you get at that lotaburger chain, but a real one with fresh meat you know is fresh because it's right there in front of you. One tip - don't get it with everything. Ketchup, mustard, tomato, lettuce and pickle kind of drown out the taste of the green chile. Just meat, cheese, and green chile are all you need.

Doesn't look like much, but according to our NM friend it is a must visit. Absolutely right - green chili burger was excellent, although our first one was with all the trimmings. Next time I would go with the recommendation below and leave off most of the extras. Well worth the stop - family run and fresh ground beef to boot.

Can't believe I had to add this business to Yelp...this place is well known around here! Long ago my cousin introduced me to this place...that was at least 15 years ago and I've been coming here ever since. Fantastic green chili burgers, lots of fries and when you're feeling adventurous you can try the Ostrich Burger...I haven't, but one day. The double meat green chili cheese burger and buffalo burger are fantastic. Family owned (there used to be twins that worked the counter who were super friendly and fun to chat with) and operated for as long as I can remember, they are genuinely great people... Thanks for the great service and consistent food quality!!!

This is close to us so it is convenient and we will go back again but I certainly would not list as my favorite burger ever. I also have had a BLT here which was highly priced and not that great. The service is fantastic and very friendly.

One of the best double bacon green-chile cheese burgers around and can't beat the sweet potato fries
(5)Erich R.
Awesome greasy burgers, and fantastic shakes. Reminds me of some classic small town burger joints I frequented growing up in Washington State. Very cool. May not be a daily health menu item, but damn does it feel good after a long hike!

This little local owned gem is a must eat. If your going to the crest on a scenic drive or hell just hungry make a short trip to Cedar Creat and have a mind blowing burger. This is old school burger at its finest no fancy smanchy stuff here. My review may possibly get updated to a 5star upon my next visit. I was unable to try the green chili cheese burger or a milkshake. I believe this may launch them to the extra star. Also on the menu is a fried pork loin sandwich. These are a Midwest thing and are quite delicious if prepared correctly. Needless this is a rare find out west but especially in NM! Needless I cannot wait for my next visit for some more mouth watering goodness. My only question is why this couldn't have been in the yearly YELP burger binge week as a stop or event local?! However I'll push for it to be next year!

It isn't often that I eat a burger so good that I'm sad when it's gone. Burger Boy is a small, family owned spot in Cedar Crest... And it's a diamond in the rough! I had a cheeseburger with onion rings, hubby had a cheese burger with fries. The burgers were juicy and cooked perfectly, the cheese was melty cheesy goodness, the onion rings had the perfect batter to onion ratio, crunch factor, and flavor profile. I only had a couple of the hub's french fries but they were exactly the way I like them- crunchy and not too salty. We aren't out east too often, but we'll be back Burger Boy. I need to try one of those milkshakes I saw, and frito pie!

Burger Boy is an East Mountains tradition. There aren't a lot of dining options in Cedar Crest, but who cares when you have Burger Boy? Don't let the humble exterior keep you away. I've only had the green chile cheeseburger, and it's pretty much the reason most people are lined up out the front door. The perfect pitstop on a day trip from Albuquerque up the Turquoise Trail, Burger Boy's burger is made to order and one of the best in the state. Seating is limited, VERY limited, so you may have to eat outside on a picnic table, or in your car. Prices are low and the staff is super friendly. My partner made the mistake of wearing an In-N-Out t-shirt on one visit, and he took some good natured ribbing!

We drove here on a whim, wanting to get a burger but not our usual red robin burger. I'm so glad we did! It wasn't too busy in there (we went when it was raining) and there were ample seats. My son is OBSESSED with shakes so of course he got one of those and chicken nuggets. I got a plain ole burger and fries. The burger was cooked just right and the fries still had the skin on them (which I LOVE). They came by after we were done and offered my son an ice cream cone, which was really nice of them, and no one complained about our 4 month old being vocal. I'm always worried about bringing our kids somewhere and have one of them freak out. Luckily we didn't hit freak out territory that day, but when we do, I'd like it to be here so I can bribe my son (yes I'm THAT mom) with an ice cream cone. This is a great family oriented burger joint and everyone is super nice here. Make it a point to stop in!

Better Burgers Wanted a quick lunch since we had a long drive ahead of us. Lots of great welcomes from a cheerful and helpful staff. But they seemed to get a bit muddled and the order of who was next broke down, food was delivered to the wrong table, and the eventual correct order to longer than it should have. Fortunately, the food was very good. I had the green chili cheeseburger and it was one of the better I've had in New Mexico. The meat was juicy and tasty and the green chili was the right amount of zing. Another in our group had the corn dog. We asked if they made their own batter but were told it was one of the few things they don't make fresh, but they try very hard to find the best product. This one was very good. The third in our party just wanted some chocolate soft serve ice cream. After a while she was told that the chocolate dispenser wasn't working but the chocolate-vanilla swirl was (seems kind of odd). When she got it she said it was a bit icy but OK. So, a little better organization and training of staff would help. Otherwise, I got myself a mighty tasty last green chili cheeseburger before leaving New Mexico.

I grew up 1/2 mile from Burger Boy and this place has been wonderful since i first came here as a toddler! The food is AMAZING, and well priced. It can busy from time to time, but its worth the wait. When i moved to Albuquerque, i still made the drive once a week for a Green Chili Burger Combo with a Vanilla Shake. This place is better than any burger joint in Albuquerque.
(5)Sasha S.
So damn good. The burgers are great that's pretty obvious, but the taco place is the hidden gem. Also, always go smiley fries.
(4)Shawn S.
We were spending the weekend in Albuquerque hiking Sandia and drive past the Burger Boy and something told us to give it a try. OMG am I glad we did. I ordered the Green Chili Cheese Burger and to be honest this is the best burger I've ever had. Just amazing. The service was just as good. We will be making it back here again!
(5)Wes T.
You kind of have to be lucky to eat here. I've driven by a few times at what would seem to be normal operating hours for a restaurant, but it's sometimes not open. For that reason, I consider eating at Burger Boy something of a crap shoot in terms of hours. In terms of food, it's consistently awesome. I usually get the double green chile cheeseburger and an iced tea. It's under $10 and really fills you up. On nice weather days, I try to sit outside, but sometimes the counter space is available. Usually this place is kinda busy, so you're jockeying for space, and waiting in line. Locals love this place, and tourists get drawn in by the old school look of it on the outside. Definitely worth popping into if you time it right and have some hunger.

After hearing my hubby talk about Burger Boy for years, he surprised me with a drive here today for lunch. Tucked on the side of the road in Cedar Crest, this little lunch spot is a gem! A few tables in and outside, you order at the counter and are greeted and served by some very friendly folks. I ordered a single green chili cheeseburger and fries, my hubby had a double. There are other sides though--slaw, tots, sweet potato fries, as well as other entrees but my heart was set on a burger! Only a few minutes later, we were brought to my delight one of the best green chili cheeseburgers ever! Perfectly seasoned, flavorful but not hot, juicy not greasy, just the right toppings. You don't want to put it down once you start! I don't think I did! The thought crossed our minds...should we order another? Well, we didn't, but they aren't that far from Albuquerque! Good thing! They are worth the drive!
(5)Kristie A.
Delicious hamburgers and fries at this cute diner off the beaten path. And the milk shakes are well worth the splurge as well as a soda because they serve it over crushed ice!!! This place has been family owned and operated for years and the love for it shows in the food.
(4)Josh H.
Whenever I venture over to the east mountains, I thoroughly enjoy stopping into this mom and pop burger joint. The building is real divey and classic at the same time. The burgers are awesome and create a Pavlovian affect when I even get near this place. There are not that many good places to eat over here, so don't pass it by. Give in to your inner carnivore and support these local kats.
(5)Joseph L.
I'm not sure why people seem to like Burger Boy. I suspect more because it's something of an institution than because it's good. With a name like Burger Boy you'd suspect that they'd make a good burger. They don't. It's not a bad burger. It's just not good. Their fries are from the freezer, their shakes are pretty meh. And the prices seem high for the quality. I've made several stops in to the place, each time hoping that the previous experiences were an exception. Unfortunately that never turns out to be the case.
(2)Jose P.
I'm ashamed to say that I have lived in the East Mountains for years and have never visited Burger Boy. The place is awesome!! Great burgers with a large portion of meat in both their regular burgers and their kids "tot" burgers. Kids meal includes smile faced tots that the kids (and I) enjoyed. Good variety of foods and desserts. I had a very large slice of chocolate cake and kids had large chocolate ice cream cones. Most importantly, this place is run by the the nicest and most accommodating people. Burger Boy Rocks!! Check them out!
(5)Thomas R.
Best local burger place in the east mountains. Surprisingly varied menu for a place with "Burger" in the name --- the fish and chips is pretty good, but I haven't sampled many of the more exotic burgers (ostrich, for example). I also love their chocolate malteds.
(5)Charles G.
Overall, food was good. I wouldn't mind going back if it were 5-10 minutes from home, but I see no reason to go out of my way. I like the owners, and thought they were very nice - the service was friendly and they have me free cookies after my meal, however the food could have been better. I had the combo plate, and wanted a relleno, but they were out of rellenos. Instead, I had a chicken taco, beef taco, and a cheese enchilada. The cheese enchilada was actually very good, but the taco shells were soggy on the bottom and stale on the top. The meat was cooked well and everything was seasoned well. Good experience, just not great. Price was excellent.
(3)KT R.
Being from Indiana, one NEVER finds a breaded tenderloin sandwich out west! BUT HERE you DO!! Fresh breaded pork loin thick and juicy cooked to perfection! Nice crunchy breading not greasy. The owners are originally from Indiana, so they know how to cook em! They even serve CRUSHED ICE in the drinks! YUM! Great customer service and fast too! Glad we found them AND it's a 60 mile trip! WORTH IT!! We both had the same thing, so that's all we can comment on! GOOD fries as well!
(5)Jack L.
For a snack while driving, we got the red chili stew and my wife got french fries. Fries were ok, but the stew was terrible. After a few bites, I threw it out -- not worth the calories. Can't comment on any other food items.
